MANUKAU BY-ELECTION

THE OFFICIAL COUNT ALL FIGURES INCREASED Tho result of the official count in the Manukau by-olcction was announced yesterday by the returning officer, Mr. D. Smith. A total of 12,591 valid votes was polled and they were) distributed as follows: — A. G. Osborne (Labour) 8,593 F. W. Doidgo (National) 3,998 Majority for Osborne 4,595 Compared with tho provisional count on the night of tho election Mr. Osborne's figures have been increased by 352 and Mr. Doidge's by IGB, while Mr. Osborne's majority has been increased by 184. iOn tho provisional count 29 votes were set aside as invalid, but on tho official count those were reduced to 22. At tho general election last November Mr. W. J. Jordan (Labour) receiver] 9345 votes, while his two opponents, Mrf H. J. Wily (Government) and Mr. H. Thornlcy (Democrat) between them polled 3963 votes, this giving Mr. Jordan a clear majority of 5382. Thus tho Labour majority in Manukau has been reduced by 787. At the general election 13,384 valid votes were polled, or 793 moro than at tho by-election. Amid showers of confetti and cheers, Mr. A. G. Osborno left for Wellington by tho limited express Inst evening. There were a largo number of Mr. Osborne's supporters and members of the Labour Party on the platform.
