AMATEUR BURGLARS

GELIGNITE JAMS SAFE CURIOUS USE FOR BUTTER Clumsy amateur burglars attempted to open the safe in the office of Millar, Patersorv and Company, Limited, in Halsey Street, Freeman's Bay, on Thursday night, but the gelignite used merely jammed the locking mechanism. They used men's overalls taken from the factory to deaden the sound of the explosion, but the curious thine about their effort is that they used a great deal of butter, most of which was spattered over the office flo»r. To get into the factory the thieves wrenched the wire screen from a window, removed a pane of glass and slipped the catch. .Although the office was in confusion nothing was stolen, the thieves apparently havhg left the % building as soon as they realised that their attempt at safe-breaking wi* fruitless.
