FIRE ON WINGATUI

VERY LITTLE DAMAGE SHIP REACHES AUCKLAND After calling at Napier on Tuesday night owing to an outbreak of fire in No. 3 hold, the steamer Wingatui arrived at Auckland yesterday afternoon and berthed at Princes Wharf to unload about 4000 tons of general cargo and produce from Southern ports. The vessel left Wellington on Monday evening and the fire was discovered next morning. The outbreak was in the 'tween-decks in the hold and the damage was confined to some lime and a few packages of general merchandise, no structural damage being done. The seat of the fire was easily reached when the > hatches were removed at Napier, and j the fire was extinguished with chem- j icals. So little damage was done that a general average will not be declared. After discharging and loading, the Wingatui is to sail for Southern ports next Friday.
