W. JARVIS' TAKANINI TEAM PROMISING YOUNG HORSES The stable at Takanini presided over by AY. Jarvis is sheltering some promising young horses, and their condition reflects credit on their traiiner. A number of the two-year-olds", were purchased at the national yearling sales at Trcntham last January, and in the i meantime they have gone through their oarlv education, and are in various stages of training for races ahead. The chestnut gelding hv Chief Ruler —Lady Pym, purchased by Mr. J. Harris, Sydney, is developing into a very fine typo of horse, slightly lopeared, and is verv tractable. He is not as forward as so7he of the others, but when further advanced should gallop well. One of the best legged horses is the brown colt by Hunting Song—Smoke Concert. He lias strong loins and good action, and should make his presence felt when lie commences racing. Another well-grown colt and beautifully ribbed up, is the chestnut by Limond — Drastic. He very much resembles Royal Box. whom Jarvis trained to win the A.R.C. St. Logor. Although chestnuts by Limond arc not supposed to be as good as others of the breed, this colt takes the eye well and should have distinct possibilities. One of the strongest in the stable is the bay colt by Lord Warden—Full Swing. He has a white eye on the near side, but from the off side his head is tho living image of that of his dam's sire, Nassau, who is tho sire of the dam of Silver Ring. He has the appearance of a likely stayer. The Chief Ruler —Prestige colt is out at exercise after breakfast, and will very shortly be fit to take his place with credit with tlie colours up. The pick of the whole bunch is the Limond —Queen March colt Birthday Boy, owned and bred by Mr. 0. Nicholson and the Hon. Eliot Davis. Besides possessing roach, size and good bone, he shows plenty of quality and bears a resemblance to the brilliant Machine Gun. Tf looks go for anything he should make a good racehorse. Jarvis also has a number of three and four-year-olds, all of whom show good condition. TROTTING BREVITIES NEWS FROM ALL SOURCES The trotting gelding Rustic, who won a race at the August meeting at Addington, has resumed work under J. S. Shaw. Storm Queen, who has been in the W.-iikato for some months, has again entered W. A. Price's stable in the Manawatu. Special meetings for charitable objects were held by the Western Australian Trotting Association last season and they realised £5925. When Air Flow reared at tho barrier on the third day of the Addington meeting Inst August she sustained an injury that has proved so troublesome that she will not bo able to race at the November carnival. Dilfashion, who has been in Auckland since the summer meeting, has joined I). 0. Jones' stable at Epsom. Tho First Fashion gelding, who ran some line races- last season, lias not done any exacting work since tho August meeting. The half-brother, by Frank Worthy, to Bedford, who is being educated by F. Herring, jun., will race as John's Last. He is a good typo of young pacer who gives the impression that he will eomo to hand inoro quickly than his relative did. Calumet Axworth. the American stallion purchased for the stud by C. S. Donald, and two two-year-olds named Lei trim and Bing Crosby, are it present in quarantine on Somes Island. Calumet Axworth and Bing Crosby will be released on October 16, but Leitrim's term will not be up till near the end of the month. Leitrim, \ colt by Real Frisco—Lady Bountiful, is a pacer and is owned by Mr. F. Wall is, jun., Gore. R. B. Berry will train him, but another name will have to be found for him, as .there is already i Leitrim racing in Southland.
