Educational Films Wanted

EMPIRE INSTITUTE PLEA I . An acute shortage of Empire instructional films is reported by the Imperial Institute, South Kensington, London, tho director of which, Sir Harry Lindsay, has appealed to Dominion and colonial governments and to' tho larger transport and commercial organisations for new reels and more copies of existing ones to meet tho constantly growing, almost clamant, demand from colleges, schools, technical and social institutes and clubs throughout tho United Kingdom. Tho shortage has developed in what is known as the Empire Film Library, housed at the institute, which only two months ago completed its first 1000 reels —the gifts of governments and other public or semi-public bodies. These pictures portray the active life of oversea Empire towns and outback areas, grandeur of scenery, the fauna and flora and the industries of tho peoples in a way that makes a geography lesson appeal to the imagination as well as to tho intellect. At the beginning of Juno there were about 2500 institutions on tho list of borrowers; to-day, tho institute sends about 3000 catalogues of its films to institutional applicants. "The growth," Sir Harry Lindsay points out, "has been continuous since the opening of the library by H.R.H. tho Duke of Gloucester in Juno of last year. Of lato the demand for the films has gathered impetus, and at the present time it is impossible to meet tho full requirements of all those who wish to make use of them for instruction and entertainment."
