"I WAS A PIRATE"

Written by an Australian, Ernest Wells, "Dirk Spaanders," an historical tale, is essentially for those who delight in stories of old-time pirates and rough justice on the high seas. The virtue of a good historical novel lies perhaps more in recapturing the atmospheres than in the actual telling. Wells has done much to achieve this by making tho language of his characters truly seventeenth century. It becomes a little tiring at times, but serves much to bring the narrative into keeping with tho period. "Dirk Spanndors: His Narrative," by Ernrst Wells. (Anpus nnd Kobertson.)
