TONGAN QUEEN'S VISIT
AUCKLAND TRAVEL CLUB A very cordial reception was given yesterday to Queen Salote Tubou, of Tonga, when she addressed the Auckland Travel Club in the Milno and Choyco Reception Hall. A crowded attendance of women roso to their feet as she entered the room, and an instrumental trio played the Tongan National Anthem. The director of the club, Mrs. Victor Alacky, welcomed Queen Salote and spoke of the beauty of Tonga and of its people. She regretted the absence of the Prince Consort and Prime Minister, Prince Tugi, who was unable to attend, ami then briefly outlined tht> Constitution of Tonga. Lady Wilson presented the guest of honour with a boiujuet on behalf of the club. The Queen received an ovation when she rose to speak. "In the first place, let inn say how glad 1 am that the director has asked me to give a 'short' address," she said, "it will be short. This wonderful club of yours will always remain in my memory and I will take pleasant thoughts of it back with me to my island home. "I can hardly tell you anything about Tonga—Mrs. Alacky has already done that —but 1 can tell you that Auckland is really my second home. 1 wish you goodwill and success in carrying out the wonderful ideals of your club." The Queen is the possessor of a particularly fine speaking voice and her remarks were audible in every corner of the reception hall. During the reception musical numbers were presented by an instrumental trio. Songs wero given by Mrs. Humphrey Gordon and Miss Mere Moihama, Miss B. Fenton played a pianoforte solo and Mrs. Carte-Lloyd recited.
