SOUTH ISLAND EXHIBITION 1 MANY OUTSTANDING BLOOMS ) [BT TELEGRAPH —PRESS ASSOCIATION] I INVERCAHOILL, I'rlday , The South Island national daffodil > show, held in conjunction with the I Invereargill Horticultural Society's spring show, was opened yesterday. [ From many parts of the South Island, and also from tho North Island, members of the National Daffodil Society sent blooms to the show, which, from the point of view of both entries and quality, is a great success. National entries number about 130, eclipsing those at any previous national show, apart from Christchureh and Dunedin, held in the South Island. The judge, the Rev. W. W. Avery, said that for quality the winning exhibits compared favourably with those shown at Auckland. The champion of champions bloom was the Rewa variety, shown by Mr. R. Dick, of Oamaru. Major awards in the national show were won as follows:—Wilson Perpetual Challenge Cup, A. Gibson (Marton); Canterbury Horticultural Society's Challenge Cup, G. H. Brownlee (Dunedin); Rhodes Silver Challenge Cup, J. T. Gray (Dunedin); Oamaru Cup, J. T. Gray; New Zealand Seedling Challenge Cup, R. Dick (Oamaru); South Island Amateur Cup, C. G. Hayes (Invereargill).
