FAULTY PACKING
CARROT GROWERS FINED "/ They looked very well on top, but ■underneath there was a lot of rubbish," said Mr. F. N. Talbot when prosecuting J. L. Chee, of Ohakune. in the Magistrate's Court yesterday for faulty packing of carrots. " The carrots were inspected at the City Markets on September 17, and on September 18 he was finod £'} for a similar offence." " Here, what do you think of that for a carrof 't " asked the magistrate, Mr., E. K. H nnt, holding up a split carrot for counsel's inspection. Counsel said the carrots were packed under contnct. Defendant was short of labour and had to employ inexperienced youths. " They always tell me that," said the magistrate, imposing a line of £5 and costs. When tha name of Yee Wah was called on a charge ox unfair packing, Mr. Talbo; showed the magistrate samples of jarrots found on the top of hags. Then, amid laughter, he brought out a handful of very small ones from a paper bag. Without hearing further evidence the magistrate imposed a fine of £5 and costs.
