10,000 IN THREE MONTHS DEMAND IN BRITAIN (Received October 1, 0.5 p.m.) British Wireless RUOBY, Sppt> 30 Reductions in charges for the telephone service, including concessions to residential subscribers of 200 local calls a year free of charge, announced by the Postmaster-General in July gave rise to a record number of applications for the telephone service. Ten thousand requests have been received in less than three months. The Post Office engineers are working at full pressure to keep pace with the unparalleled public demand.
