GOLF IN AUSTRALIA
AMATEUR CHAMPIONSHIP FERRIER RETAINS TITLE EASY WIN IN FINAL (Received October 1, 10.25 p.m.) MELBOURNE, Oct. 1 James Ferrier, without difficulty, today retained his title of amateur golf champion of Australia. In the final ho beat Alec Rae, the Victorian, 9 and 8. Ferrier played magnificent golf. Since the last round in the. open on Saturday, he has not exceeded 72 for 18 holes.
The final of the professional championship will be played on Friday.

In the third round of the English women's golf championship, Miss Diana Fishwick beat Miss Garon, the titleholder, 2 and 1; M iss Wade beat Miss Taylor, 5 and 3; Mrs. Crosthwaite beat M iss Barton at the 21st green; Lady Eddis heat Miss Doran, 2 and 1; Miss Gourlay beat Miss Granham, 3 and 1; Miss Morgan beat Miss Berry, two up: Miss Newell beat Miss Hartopp, 4 and 2. In the fourth round Miss Fishwick heat Miss Goldsworth, 4 and 3; Miss Holme beat Mrs. Crosthwaite, 3 and 2\ Miss Wade beat Mrs. Gold 3 and 2; Miss Gourlay beat Miss Wilkins, 4 and 3; Lady Eddis beat Miss Hamilton, one up; Miss Morgan beat Miss Norris, 4 and 3; Miss Newell beat Miss Poekett, 4 and 3.
Four former title-holders —Misses Fishwick, Wade, Gourlay and Morgan—thus enter the fifth round.
