OFFICIAL OPENING

CARLTON CROQUET CLUB The sim shone brightly on Wednesday for the official opening of the Carlton Croquet Club. Over 100 croquet enthusiasts accepted invitations, from Kaukapakapa, Manurewa ami Waiuku. The Auckland Association was represented by the president, Mrs. McGill, the vice-presidents, Mesdaines Webber, Clarke and Robertson, and the assist-ant-Secretary, Mrs. Finch. Other members representing the association were Mesdames Crawford, Garrard and Fliin. The president, Mrs. Hamilton, received the guests, wearing a black ensemble with vest of striped cherry and blue taffetas, a black hat and cherry-coloured ornament.

During afternoon tea Mrs. Hamilton welcomed the guests and presented Mrs. McGill with a bouquet of beautiful irises, ixias and golden lupin. Mrs. McGill, on behalf of the association, wished the club success for the 1936-37 season, and also congratulated the club on having as a member Mrs. Baker, Auckland's champion of champions. Letters from Mrs. Keesing. secretary of the association, conveyed good wishes to croquet members. Mrs. Perry presented Mrs. Hamilton with a Irtinch of primroses and maidenhair fern. Progressive croquet was played, and Mrs. Hamilton presented trophies to the following successful players:— A grade, Mrs. Ellis 1, Mrs. Laurie 2; B grade, Mrs. 1, Miss Waddingham 2.
