A NOTED VISITOR
MRS. ALFRED WATT
A distinguished visitor, who reaches Auckland this morning from San Francisco, is Mrs. Alfred Watt, M.A., M.8.E., the Canadian-born president of the Associated Countrywomen of the World. Various women's organisations in Auckland have planned a series of welcomes, these organisations including the Lyceum t Club, the Overseas League, and the Victoria League, while the largest body of rural women in New Zealand, the Women's Institutes have arranged an afternoon reception to be held in the Town Hall concert chamber on Monday afternoon. The newly-elected president of the Federated Women's Institutes of New Zealand, Mrs. W. M. Deans, will be present at the gathering, as well as members of the Auckland Federation executive. A small mayoral reception will also be given to Mrs. Watt in the Mayor's room this morning. Mrs. Watt has been president of the Associated Countrywomen of the World since last, June, when she was elected at a great meeting of 7000 delegates assembled at Washington for the triennial conference. Mrs. Watt is accompanied by Miss Hetty Smart, of Oshawa, Caanda, who will speak on the experiences and activities of Canadian girls. It will be of great interest to hear Mrs. Watt speak during her Auckland visit. She was the only woman speaker at the recent British Empire Summer School at Oxford and she also spoke at the annual meeting of English Women's Institutes at the Albert Hall, London, when 10,000 women were present. She also spoke at the conference of the Northern Housewives of Norway, Sweden, Denmark and Finland, held at Aarhus, in Denmark.
