CUSTOMS RETURNS

DUNEDIN COLLECTIONS LARGEST SINCE AUGUST, 1934 [BY TELEGRAPH —PRESS ASSOCIATION'] DUNEDIN, Thursday Due principally to the arrival during the month of an unusually largo number of overseas vessels, the amount of customs revenue collected during September at tho port of Dunedin is tho largest since August, 1934. The following figures give a comparison of the revenue derived in September of tho present year with that for tho corresponding month of 1935: —Customs, £64,655 (£58,682); beer duty, £22,067 (£24,798); sales tax, £23,684 (£19,053); petrol tax, £12,357 (£10,983); tyro tax, £477 (£865); gold duty, £933 (£1436). The following are tho figures for tho first six months of the current financial year, together with those for the AprilSeptember period of last year:—Customs duty, £353,204 (£308,022); beer duty, £125.655 (£106,568) ; sales tax, £140,428 (£120,038); petrol tax, £77,343 (£67,186); tyre tax, £4094 (£4476); gold duty, £10,984 (£10,536).
