INDIAN BAZAAR

FUNCTION AT Y.W.C.A. Gaily-hued umbrellas, rich draperies and attendants clad in silken saris in tones of gold, green and pink gave an appropriate atmosphere to the Assembly Hall at the Y.W.C.A. buildings yesterday afternoon, when an Indian bazaar was held. Tho new residential floor was declared open by the Lady Angela Dawnay, who was wearing a smart black coat and a small black hat trimmed with black and whito feather flowers. She was received by the president of tho association, Mrs. M. Rudd, who was in a leaf green frock and hat, and by the general secretary, Miss Elsie Bennet, in a moss green costume and black hat. Mrs. A. D. Campbell, the past president, who was also present, wore a navy coat with a grey fox collar and a navy hat. Lady Angela, who also opened the bazaar, congratulated the Y.W.C.A. on the good work it was doing in this city, and remarked that the organisation was much admired in England. She was sure that the founders of the Auckland branch would feel extremely gratified if they could see how it had grown in the last 50 years. It was for those women who were alone in the city that the organisation did its greatest work. It offered them facilities for talking and reading in a congenial atmosphere and for sports, and assisted them in the search for employment. The various stalls and those in charge of them were as follows:—Junglebell Patch (Scottish Women's Club); sweets and international doll's pageant (Senior Department and Senior Department Committee); produce (Membership Committee); miscellaneous (Library Committeo); bathroom (Progressive Club); fancy work and noveltics (Overseas Club and Service Committeo) ; cakes (Cafeteria Committee); toys (Girls' Department Committee and Girls' Department); Christmas gifts (hostel); household linen (Mothers' Club); toddlers and flowers (World Fellowship Committee); afternoon tea (House and Inquiry Committeo and New Zealand Club).

A special decorating committee had arranged the stalls in the hall and the entrance was flanked with tubs of bamboo, and bowls of crimson tiger lilies, marigolds and azaleas. At the official table in the tea room, which was' decorated with bluebells and poppies, were the Lady Angela Dawn ay, Mrs. Rudd, Mrs. Campbell, Lady Wilson. Mrs. J. Bradstreet, Mrs. Todd Smith and Miss Bennet.
