WOMAN PROFESSOR

AMERICAN IN LONDON An interesting woman visitor to London recently was Miss Mildred Boie, assistant professor of English language and literature at the famous Smith College, Northampton, Massachusetts, whose verso and criticism are appearing in many well-known American publications, says an English writer. Miss Boie's first published work appeared in tho Morning Post when she came to England in 1930, after having obtained her degree at the University of Minnesota. She earned her college expenses by typing, doing research work, tutoring students and acting as assistant in educational psychology and sociology.

She then worked for two years in an advertising agency, where, to her horror, she discovered how uneducated she still was. Determined to get the best education possible, she caine to London for a year and then went up to Newnham.

By doing free-lance work for the Morning Post, the Spectator and other English publications, she was able to stay in England for two years.
