ST. GEORGE'S CLUB INCREASE IN MEMBERSHIP An active membership of 46 and a life membership of 19, a slight increase for the year, is shown in the report to be presented at th«» annual meeting of the, St. George's Bowing Club to-night. Deepest regret is expressed in the report at the death of Sir James Coates, president of the club for many years. "He was a staunch supporter, and upon many occasions proved his affection for the club in a very material manner. The Rev. R. G. Coats was elected to the position of president. The club was represented at all provincial regattas, securing wins at North Shore, Hamilton a/id Mercer. The Sir Henry Brett Memorial Cup, controlled by the club, was again won by the Waitemata Boating Club, to whom congratulations are extended. Ten sets of trill Tour races were held and in spite of adverse weather conditions consistently encountered, it did not in any way detract from the members' enthusiasm and interest in tfcis branch of the club's activities. The racing provided spirited contests and the winning honours were well distributed. ... A big loss to the club s management was Mr J. R. H. Bisr. who found it necessary to relinquish captaincy on account of business The position was filled by the deputycaptain, Mr. W. L. C'arr. The services were also iost of two valuable members, Mr. D. Malthus, who went to the country, and, Mr. D. Brown, to whose efforts during the last few years the club is greatly indebted. ■ The balance-sheet shows the club's finances to be in a satisfactory condition, although the season concluded with a bank overdraft of £73 Us lid. This is an improvement of £S Os Gd on the previous season. The landing skids, which have been a monetary embarrassment for the last four years, are now completely unencumbered, and this fact should be greatly appreciate by the incoming officers. The accounts show an expenditure of £l'.!fi, regatta expenses totalling £l7, rates £lO, insurance £9. bad debts £B, and association fees and sundry expenses £ls, being the largest items. The balance of assets over liabilities amounts to £137».
