JUBILEE TROPHY FINAL PONSONBY TO PLAY MARIST OTAGO UNION CONGRATULATED A letter was received at the Auckland Rugby Union's meeting last night from the Marist Club suggesting that next Saturday's match for the Jubilee Trophy should carry with it the grand .championship a3 well, so as to avoid the possibility that the two teams, Pontsonby and Marist, might have to meet again for the grand championship 011 the. following Saturday. It was pointed out. however, that tho arrangements to play tho Gallahor Shield winner against the .lubilce Trophy winner for tlie grand championship were of long standing and that to alter these arrangements ruight disappoint the public Furthermore it vis pointed out that it would bo difficult to gecure tho Ponsonby (Hub's approval lor the suggested alteration at bo late a stage. In the event of Marist winning on .Saturday, tho match for the grand championship and the caps awarded to tho successful team by the union will be played at the Show (irounds and this, it was stated, would give the public an opportunity of seeing tho new ground and appointments there. A letter was read from the North Shore Club with reference to a challenge match against the winner of the second division. It was decided to defer decision for a week. The King Country Union wroto extending thanks for much-appreciated hospitality bestowed upon the King Country team during its visit to Auckland. It was decided to send a letter of congratulation to tho Otf.go Rugby Union on the fine performance of its representative team in holding the Ranfurly Shield throughout the season. . . V letter of congratulation is to be sent also to tho Thames Valley Union on the excellent management of the recent primary schools' tournament for the Roller Mills Shield. It was decided that in the event of a draw between Ponsonby and Marist next Saturday, no extra time should be played, but that the two teams should be bracketed as jubilee Trophy winners.
