THE WAR MEMORIAL [by telegraph—own correspondent] OPOTIKI, Wednesday A decision to secure an estimate for ' renovating the Opotiki War Memorial was made last evening; at the monthly meeting of the Opotiki Borough Council. Letters had been received on the subject from the R(-turned Soldiers' Association and County Council. The Cook Count? Council wrote stating that the council was suppoiting the Opotiki Borough Council's representations that all open watercourses on the Waioek:i Gorge Road should be culverted or bridged. . , The town clerk produced a plan of a pile and steel girder bridge showing that the proposed bridge across the Otara River at the northern end of the borough would cost abiiiut £2500. It was decided that sketch plans, with esti- !' . mate, should be procured as soon ,i----possible and. a request made to the Public Works Department for a sub- ■: :
