LABOURER'S THEFTS
MANY CONVICTIONS SIX MONTHS' IMPRISONMENT "There is nothing I can say for this man —he seems to be a habitual thief," said Detective-Sergeant McHugh, when Thorald Oswald George Knudson, labourer, appeared before Mr. I'\ K. Hunt, S.M., in the Police Court yesterday. "He has 43 previous convictions," added Mr. McHugh. Knudson pleaded guilty to the theft of an overcoat valued at 255, a hat valued at £1 10s and a suitcase containing men's clothing valued at £9 ss. Detective-Sergeant McHugh said accused was staying at a boarding house in Hobson Street in August, and the was compelled to put him out because he was not paying and because of his drinking habits. He took the hat and coat when he left. While staying at a house in Parnell, where he had been given free board for live days thi3 month, accused got up early one morning and packed a suitcase with the clothes, Later, the owner found him in Queen Street with the suitcase and took it away from him. When interviewed by a detective, he admitted the theft.
Accused was convicted and discharged on the first two charges, and sentenced to six months' imprisonment on the third.
