FEATURES OF WEATHER MORE SUNSHINE RECORDED September was a month of very mixed weather in Auckland, the rainfall being about average, but temperatures varying greatly, according to the report of Mr. S. M. Yallop, official Government observer. The feature of the month was that the weather was warmer, the sunshine registered being nearly 20 per cent above the usual amount for September. There was only one day on which the sun did not shine. Temperatures recorded by a thermometer on grass ranged from 29 degrees to 52 degrees during the month. The rainfall for the month was 3.61 in., compared with 2.74 in. in September last year. Rain fell on 18 days, but a heavy fall of 1.43 in. on September 27 accounted for the major portion of the total. The winds last month were mostly westerly to south-westerly, rising to gale force on three.days. There were two frosts registered in the city. 'The mean temperature for the month was 54.46 degrees, as against 52.59 degrees in September, 1935. The mean maximum daily temperature was 58.970 degrees and the mean minimum daily temperature 49.950 degrees. The latter reading is 3.270 degrees higher than that of the previous September. The highest temperature was 63 degrees on September 17, and the lowest was 38.40 degrees on September 8. The total sunshine for the month was 181 hours 54 minutes, compared with 161 hours 18 minutes in September last year, when there were two days without sunshine. In September, 1934, there were no days without sunshine and the total was 163 hours 36 minutes. The greatest duration of sunshine on any day last month was 11 hours 6 minutes, which was recorded on September 8. The mean barometric pressure for the month was 29.923 in., compared with 30.617 in. for September last year. The maximum of 30.258 in. was recorded on September 8, and the minimum of 29.350 in. on September 28. MORE RAIN THAN USUAL CONDITIONS AT HAMILTON I [from our own correspondent] HAMILTON, Wednesday More rain than usual fell in Hamilton this month, the fall being 4.69 in., against 3.88 in., the average rainfall for Hamilton for September. The rainfall for the nine months is very little short of the average for the whole year, being 43,95 in.,. as against 46.32 in., the annual average.
