POWEKS OF COUNCIL AMENDMENTS JO BILL ONE IMPORTANT CHANGE [by TELEGRAPH —SPECIAL REPORTER.] WELLINGTON, Wednesday Various amendments have been mad© to the Auckland Metropolitan Milk Amendment Bill? which was reported back to the House of Representatives from the Local Bills Committee today. Tho most important alteration is the striking out of the clause which in the original bill made special provisions relating to the purchase of milk by the council from the New Zealand Co-operative Dairy Company. Limited. These provisions were to have applied in the event of the council exercising its powers under the bill to purchase all milk for district supply. x However, the powers for compulsory purchase in all other respects are retained. An amendment to the clause dealing with the raising of loan? by the council prevents the council from borrowing at a rate exceeding 5 per cent without the consent of the Minister of Finance. Two new clauses provide for the drawing up of annual balance-sheets and for the establishment by the council of a special fund to meet various contingencies, such as accidents, depreciation and the like. The report of the committee, which recommended that the bill should be allowed to proceed with the amendment!!! suggested, was tabled.
