£16,000 IN GIFTS
CHARITIES AND EDUCATION CANTERBURY WOMAN'S WILL [by telegraph—press association] CHBISTCirURCH, Sunday Many institutions in Christchurch have benefited substantially, to the total extent of more than £16,000, under the will of Mrs. Abigail E. M. Mickle, widow of Dr., A. F. J. Mickle, of New Brighton, who died in February last year. There are three special bequests. The first is a sum of £IOO to the District Nursing Association; the second is £IOOO to St. George's Hospital to enable deserving persons in reduced circumstances to obtain treatment as patients out of the income from the bequest; and the third provides for £IOOO for the erection of a gateway at the Armagh Street entrance at Haglev Park as a memorial to Dr. Mickle. The remainder of the estate is divided among five bodies. One quarter amounting to about £3500, goes to the South Island Methodist Orphanage and Children's Homo, and the same amount goes to the Presbyterian Social Service Association, which controls the Presbyterian orphanages. St. Georgo's Hospital also receives I about £3500 in addition to the special bequest, making a total of £.1500 available to the hospital. One-eighth, amounting to £1775, is bequeathed to the North Canterbury Hospital Hoard. The Canterbury University College will receive £1775 to establish a trust : fund to b» known as the Dr. Mickle I Student Loan Fund, for the purpose i of assisting deserving students to continue their studies at the college, in cases where, for financial reasons, they might be unable to do so. 1 On his death Dr. Mickle bequeathed 1 £SOO to the Otago Medical School to ' provide a prize fund for students.
