TRAM TRAFFIC
FALLING OFF ON SATURDAY NOON RUSH LESS THAN USUAL In spite of the noon closing of shops and offices on Saturday, an impression among tramway officers is that the vol-ume-of traffic at mid-day on Saturday was, if anything, less than usual. A falling-olf in the inward loading on Saturday was very noticeable on trams in most districts between 7 and 8 a.m. This was due, of course, to the closing of many factories on Saturday, and apparently the fewer factory workers going home on the trams *at noon and a little after offset the greater concentration of office and shop workers at this period. It was very noticeable in the suburbs | on Saturday morning that many men | were working in their gardens. Others! were taking children for walks or even : giving their infant an airing in the perambulator. Possibly many house- i wives did not relish the idea of their j husbands sitting about idle in the J home.
