FROZEN AND CHILLED PRICES AT SMITHFIELD LAMB AND MUTTON DEARER (Received September 13, 5.5 p.m.) LONDON, Sept. 12 Following are the latest quotations for frozen and chilled meat, with those of the previous week for comparison:— FROZEN MUTTON Sept. o Sept. 12

The weekly quotations are based on actual sales of wholesale quantities of carcases of mutton or lamb or of quarters of beef delivered to Smithfiokl market and/or London stores. They are compiled by the Quotations Committee, Smithfiokl. To arrive at the equivalent ex ship values one farthing per pound should bo deducted from the prices quoted above. Quotations given represent the average for the week, and are not selected linos, but for parcels fairly representative of the bulk of shipments now on offer. LAMB MARKET IMPROVES SMALLER SUPPLIES OF EWES The following private cablegrams dealing with the Smithfield meat market at the close of business last week, have been received:— Now Zealand Meat Producers' Board.—Lamb: The market is firmer with better prices. Consumption good. Mutton: Wethers and ewes are meeting with a good demand at the advanced prices. Beef-' Frozen beef is quiet with hindquarters firmer. The' chilled beef demand is slow. New Zealand porker pigs: The market is quiet, but firm. New Zealand baconer pigs: The market, is firm, owing to short spot stocks. Bank of New Zealand.—Wethers: There is a steady trade at rather better values. Ewes: Smaller supplies have caused prices to harden. Lambs: The market has improved lor first quality; seconds remain steady. Quotations: Wethers, light, 43d to 5Jd per lb.; heavy, 4d to 4Jd; ewes, 3id to lambs, twos, 7d to 7Jd; eights, 7d to 7£d; fours, 6id to 6£d; seconds, 61d to 7d. WHOLESALE EGG PRICES Wholesale egg prices, as announced by the Auckland Egg Marketing Committee, are unchanged as follows: — Hon, first grade, Is OJd a dozen; B grade, IHd; C grade, BJd; duck, Is l).'d, 11 id, BJd. Country storekeepers' buying rates are unaltered at 9d a dozen for first grade cluck and hen eggs.
