OBITUARY

MR. JOHN PRICKETT The death has occurred at Birkenhead of Mr. John Prickett, for many years a well known resident of Hamilton, at the age of 74 years. Born in Westmoreland, England, Mr. Prickett came to New Zealand in 1907, landing at Auckland. For seven years he was engaged by a firm of stonemasons and in 1914 entered business as a monumental mason in Hamilton. He retired about three years ago. Mr. Prickett was a foundation member of the Hamilton East Bowling Club and the first president. He was prominently connected with the control of the sport in South Auckland. For the past 10 years lie was vice-president of the Hamilton Kennel Club. He was a prominent member of the Lodge Beta Waikato. He is survived by two sons. MR. A. R. LANGLEY [from our own correspondent] HAMILTON, Friday The death occurred in the Waikato Hospital to-day of Mr. Albert Richard Langle.v, of Baglan, at the age of 82 years. Mr. Langley was born in Berkshire, and went to Australia as a youth of 17. For a period he served with the militia, and then took up cattle dealing. Mr. Langley landed in New Zealand in 187; i and built a hotel at Inglewood. Ho later became a storekeeper at Manaia. He moved to Haglan, where lie and his brother established a sawmill. When the Maori War broke out ho w.ent to Kawhia and conducted a store and flaxmill. Returning to Raglan in 18S6, ho bought a number of businesses, including a hotel and a store. He took an active part in local affairs, being the promoter of the Raglan Mounted Rifles and a member of the Raglan Town Board. He also served on the committees of football and cricket clubs. For 50 years he was harbourmaster at Raglan. He was a booklover, and his collection of old books attracted widespread attention. He is survived by his wife, one son and one daughter. MR, PETER McDERMOTT [by telegraph —own correspondent] DARGAVILLE, Friday The death has occurred of Mr. Peter McDermott after a long illness. Mr. McDermott had resided in. the UargavjHe district for o0 years, of which about 40 were spent on Ins 'farm at Avoea. Ho was from May, 192.5 to May 1929, a member of the Hooson County Council, representing the Tangowahino Hiding, and was a justice of the penco. He is survived by i\lrs. McDermott, two sons and three daughters. ___________
