STEAMER IN STORM

WANGANELLA BUFFETED ONLY MINOR DAMAGE DONE HORSES UNDER HATCHES (Received August 31, 9.45 p.m.) SYDNEY, August 31 The Wanganella, which arrived at Sydney to-day, experienced a very severe cyclonic storm from the time she left Wellington almost to when she sighted the coast of New South Wales. Minor damage was done to a secondclass bulkhead. A life-line had to be run from the forecastle to enable men to cross the forward well-deck safely. Three horses in the 'tween decks bound for Melbourne weathered the trip satisfactorily but the hatches had to be battened down securely while men below calmed the animals.
