STOCK BY RAIL

HEAVY WELLSFORD TRAFFIC! FACILITIES TO BE IMPROVED [from our owx correspondent] WELLSFORD, Monday A very busy week was experienced at the Wellsford railway station last -week, mainly due to the heavy stock traffic. On the day of the spring cattle fair held by the North Auckland Farmers' Co-operative, Limited, 57 trucks of stock were loaded and despatched, a large number being for stations south of Auckland as far as Te Kauwhata. Owing to the great increase in the amount of stock, fertilisers, .fruit and general goods handled at Wellsford, arrangements have been made by the Railway Department to carry out a big scheme of improvements. Tho two present dead-end sidings are to be lengthened and made into loop sidinps to expedite shunting operations. Additional cattle and sheep yards arc to be built and an extra loading race erected so that two trucks can be loaded at onco.
