ACTIVITY CONTINUES LARGE TOTAL IN AUGUST HOMES UNDER CONSTRUCTION Building in Auckland, which has been very, nctive this year, was well maintained in August, the total value of permits issued by tho City Council being £73,557, Tho total, while lower than that for June and July this year, is more than £30,000 above that for August last yenr, and is over four times tho figure of £10,528 for tho corresponding month in 1934. Tho amount spent in building since tho' beginning of this year is nearly £575,000, more than twice tho total for tho first eight months last year. Permits issued last month totalled 154. The principal buildings for which permits were issued are two blocks of Hats, ono in tho city and the other in Ponsonby. There wore no largo business premises or factories. In July, the number of permits for dwellings was 36, and in June it was 33. The permits for house building this year total 2GO, against 157 for tho corresponding months last year and 94 in the January-August period in 1934,
