PIG-RECORDING SCHEME
OPINION IN MANAWATU SUGGESTION MADE FOR LEVY [ nv TELEGRAPH —OWN correspondent] PALM HUSTON NORTH, Thursday Regret at the haste with which the Waikato Pig-Reeording Club had voiced its disapproval of the way the Department of Agriculture had brought down its proposed national pigrecording scheme was expressed by the Manawatu-Oroua Pig-Recording Club. It was decided to write to the Waikato body emphasising that the proposals were but the first steps in a bigger scheme to include instructional work badly needed by the industry, and pointing out that the department had indicated that it was prepared to co-operate with recording clubs. In the circumstances it was a pity unanimous support was not given by interested bodies. .Mr. R. P. Connell said the question of personal pride of organisations should be a minor matter. The essential thing was to decide whether the scheme was any good. If not, the Minister should bo told so. The Waikato Club would not lose status. It was decided to suggest to the department that a conference be called of the interested parties, in order to obtain the greatest co-operation. It was decided also to seek the aid of the New Zealand Pig Breeders' Association in an appeal to the farming community, through the Farmers' Union, for support for a levy of 2d on all pigs killed for export or local consumption, the money to be used in improving the industry.
