Mr. A. J. Murdoch, chairman of the New Zealand Dairy Board, and Mr. T. C. Brash, secretary of the board, are at present in the South Island. They attended a conference of delegates from factories in the southern ward at Invercnrgill last week.

Mr. John Parsons, of Barcelona, who has visited relatives in New Zealand every two years for a considerable time past, has arrived in England with his family aboard a British warship, according to private advice received by cable. Mr. Parsons was in the Dominion last summer.

Mr. A. G. Hutchinson, shearing machinery expert for Levin and Company, has retired after 46 years' service with the company. Mr. Hutchinson has been associated with the development of mechanical shearing ever since its introduction into the Dominion many years ago.

Mr. D. E. S. Mason, engineer to 'cne ■Bluif Harbour Board, who holds the rank of lieutenant in the New Zealand Division of the Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve, has been promoted to the rank of engineer-lieutenant commander. This is the first engineer appointment made in the New Zealand division of the reserve.

Mr. F. J. T. Grigg. Government analyst at Christchurch, has been given leave of absence to visit England to make contact with authorities carrying out similar duties there. Mr. Grigg will investigate the latest analytical methods in toxicology, water and sewage testing, examination of foodstuffs, and gas supplies.
