ELECTORAL BOUNDARIES
PENDING READJUSTMENT SOUTH ISLAND CONCERN [BV TELEGRAPH —SPECIAL PEPORTEIt] WELLINGTON, Friday Interest in what was being done about the readjustment of electoral boundaries, particularly as far as the South Island was concerned, was expressed in the House of Representatives by the Hon. A. Hamilton (Opposition—Wallace) when the Electoral Department's estimate was under consideration. He asked whether any action had been taken to set up a Boundary Commission, and tlio Prime Minister, Mr. Savage, replied that the matter was in hand. The Minister of Railways, the Hon. D. G. Sullivan: As a South Island member 1 hope you are not pressing for it. (Laughter.) " The Prime Minister explained that two commissioners were appointed. Mr. Hamilton: 1 hope no seats will disappear and that members will know where they are until next election. The Prime Minister: There will be a lot of seats disappear then. Mr. Hamilton: On the Government side.
He added that it was very interesting, and yet would be very disturbing if they were to lose two seats. According to the total on the last roll it looked as if they would lose one seat and that an extra seat would be created between the Hutt. Wellington Suburbs and Wellington East electorates.
