SWIMMING

CERTIFICATES PRESENTED The healthfiilness of swimming as nn exercise was commended by tho Mayoress, Mrs. Ernest Davis, in addressing pupils of the Kohiniarama School yesterday prior to distributing pennants and certificates gained in races conducted by Hie Eastern Suburbs Amateur Swimming and Life-saving Club. The Mayor. Mr. Ernest Davis, is patron of the club. Mrs. Davis said sho hoped that some of the children would develop into Annette Kellermans, and attain skill of tho degree that made possible such feats as swimming the English Channel. The chairman of the Eastern Suburbs Club, Mr. A. J. Whylo. said that, while all tho children could swim, tho club was providing them with coaching that would enablo them to become more competent. Ho referred to the performances registered at the Olympic Gaines as instances of tho skill reached in swimming. Pennants for winning races were presented by Mrs. Davis to lan Stanton, Robert Stanton, Graeme Jackson. Shirley Soper, Leonie Rlackett and Lois Soper, and certificates for rnnners-up to Alfred Ncal, G. Eady, Robert Stanton, Marjoric Kemp and Jean Clark.
