HUTT EAILWAYMEN - TRADES UNION OFFICIALS ALLEGED VICTIMISATION i QUESTION OF STATUS [BY TELEGRAPH —OWN CORRESPONDENT J WELLINGTON, Sunday Dissatisfaction with general working conditions in the Hutt Railway Workshops culminated on Friday in a mass meeting of workers attended bv irore than GOO men. The meeting protested against the alleged victimisation of trades union officials in the Hutt works, contending that these men wore being prevented by workshop officials from carrying out the basic principles of trades unionism. It was decided to call on the Railway Tradesmen's Association and the Amalgamated Society of Railway Servants to have the status of trades union officials placed on a satisfactory basis. Subsequently a deputation waited on the general manager of railways, Mr. G. H. Mackley, with a request that, in co-operation with the union, the Gov. eminent should take action to stop "pin-pricking" methods employed by the management in the Hutt shops. Mr. Mackley promised that the rcpresentations made by the deputation would receive consideration, and on Saturday he visited the shops.
