FIJIAN LADIES' TOUR

TEST MATCH DECIDED CONTEST AT WELLINGTON NEW ZEALAND SUCCESSFUL [dy TELKGRAPII —PUKSS association] WELLINGTON, Saturday The ladies' hockey test between New Zealand and tho visiting Fijian team played to-day resulted in . a win for New Zealand by four goals to nil. New Zealand had a definite territorial advantage throughout tho game, In't a stout defence prevented it from scoring until lato in tho first half, the halftime score being one goal to nil. Both teams brightened their play considerably in the second half, but after about 10 minutes' play New Zealand becamo definitely superior. Consistent attacking gave New Zealand threo goals in quick succession. Fiji's defence was still sound, but the team was tiring and its retaliation was negligible. The New Zealand forwards played with combination anil speed, characteristics which were lacking in the Fijian attack. Tho visitors' defence, o*i th< other hand, was particularly stubborn. Good positional pla.v gave Miss Sherriff, New Zealand's inside left, the first two goals, and the third goal was scored as a result of superior stick work on the part of Mrs. Reid. captain and centre-forward, who curried the ball from just outside the circle right into the goalmouth. Miss McKcnzic, inside right, who showed up several speedy runs, scored a remarkahle fourth goal, running through the defence from half-way shortly before the final whistle. Several dangerous openings made by the visitors lacked tho finish reouired to score. Chances were repeatedly missed owing to the visiting players- not being up on the ball. The came was played at a u-ood speed and the final score wis a fair indication of the merits of the teams. The match wis watched bv Lady On 1 way. to whom the players were presented.
