REPUBLICAN'S ATTITUDE ADDRESS TO ROTARY CLUB "This is election year in the United States ami, being a staunch Republican. J am not very happy at the present Ad-1 ministration," said Dr. Laurence L. j Doggett, president emeritus of the : international Young Men's Christian 1 Association College, Springfield, Massachusetts, in a short address at the Auckland Rotary Club's luncheon in, Milne and Choyce's Reception Hall yes- j terday. Dr. Doggett, -who arrived by the Aorangi yesterday 011 a holiday visit, said lie still hoped that something would happen to Mr. Roosevelt's New Deal. Like Adam Smith, the economist, the speaker believed business should be conducted in such a way that there was some advantage to both sides involved. Then! appeared to be a reluctance to lower prices, which were raised by tariffs and labour unioiis. Prices were alwavs raised by monopolies. Lt was a better policy to' lower prices, and keep up the power of production. Rotary Club members extended nil enthusiastic welcome to Mr. W. Thomas, of Timaru, district governor of Rotary in New Zealand, Mr. H. Guthrie, of Dunedin, a past district governor in New Zealand, and Dr. Injrlis Robertson, of Sydney, ft district governor. Among other visitors were Mr. E. <T. Stevens (London), Mr. C. E. Jones and Mr. W. .T. Brown (Christchurch), Mr. C. W. Budd (Wellington) and Mr. J. D. Ward (Rotorua). Mr. 1 H. J. R. Preston was elected a member.
