WAR AND FASCISM

CRITICAL DEMONSTRATION TORCHLIGHT PROCESSION Carrying torches and banners, about 250 representatives of various workingclass organisations held a procession through the city last night from Prince's Wharf to the Domain as a demonstration against war and Fascism. At the Domain the gathering, which had been swelled by several hundreds, was urged by speakers to support efforts to prevent war, and resolutions wero carried giving expression to this and criticising what were taken as recent manifestations of Fascist activity. The procession included a number of women and children, youths and young women, and returned soldiers, of whom a few wore their medals. Headed by the Takapuna Band, the procession, which was organised by the Movement Against War and Fascism, included representatives of the following organisations: —The Auckland Provincial Council against War and Fascism, the Tramways' Union, the Carpenters' Union, the General Labourers' Union, the Local Bodies' Labourers' Union, the Young Communists' League, the Communist Party, the Friends of the Soviet Union, the Onehunga Council against War and Fascism, the Otnhuhu Railway Council against War and Fascism, the Takapuna Council against War and Fascism, the Drivers' Union, the Working Women's Movement, and the Women's International League for Peace and Freedom. The banners called to the onlookers to unite against the two forces against which the demonstration was held, and bore slogans associating the marchers with tbn Spanish working-classes who wore fighting against Fascist forces, illustrating the results of war, and condemning preparations for it. The proceedings were orderly throughout.
