KAIPARA HOSPITAL BOARD
Sir, —It is evident that on being faced with an expenditure on additional accommodation the Kaipara Hospital Board did not feel competent to devise a scheme and put it into effect, so submitted its problems to subordinate local bodies, thereby indicating a desire to place itself in the hands of the ratepayers. The members of the local bodies are not pledged to the ratepayers on policy matters of the hospital and consequently any decisions arrived at by them are purely personal. The Hospital Board as a governing body has ceased to exist, and if the decisions arrived at by these subordinate local bodies are accepted by the Health Department it will in effect be disfranchising the ratepayers in the Hospital Board's district. In view of the position the members of the Hospital Board should now be called upon to resign their seats in order to allow the ratepayers to express their opinion on the matter involved and at the same time elect a board with sufficient ability and courage to administer the affairs of the institution. Anxious.
