PRIME MINISTER'S OFFICE

MR. BERENDSEN'S ABSENCE

[BY TELEGRAPH —SPECIAL REPORTER.] WELLINGTON, Monday

A. slight reorganisation of the staff of the Prime Minister's Department has been necessitated by the departure from Wellington to-day of Mr. C. A. Uerendsen, permanent head of the department, who will be a member of the New Zealand delegation to the Assembly of the League of Nations at Geneva in September. During Mr. Berendsen's absence Mr. C. A. Jeffrey, chief private secretary to the Prime Minister, will act as head of the department, although he will also continue to carry out his normal official duties. Mr. Berewlsen left for Auckland by train this evening and will sail by the Niagara to-morrow on his way to England. He will travel in company with the future High Commissioner, Mr. W. J. Jordan, M.P. for Majiukau, who will be tho leader of the New Zealand delegation at Geneva. Mr. Berendseu hopes to return to the Dominion before the end of the year.
