ONEHUNGA BOROUGH
THE HOSPITAL LEVY CONCERN OF THE COUNCIL Strong representations were made bv Mr. A. A Coates at the Onehunga Borough Council Hireling last night regarding the relief of ratepayers of some of the burden imposed by hospital boards. The question, he said, was exercising the concern of local bodies generally throughout tlio Dominion. Tlid levy •illocated to the Onehunga Borough, lie continued, was increasing annually. The council decided to maker representations Id the Government on the question and to forward to the Minister of Hcalt.li. a copy of the resolution. On the suggestion of the Auckland City Council it was agreed to support :i proposal for the formation of a permanent Metropolitan Coininitteo r«>pr<»sentativ© of all local bodies within the proposed Metropolitan Drainage area with the object of discussing from time to time various questions of metropolitan interest. The Mayor, Mr. J. Park, was appointed the permanent delegate for tho Onehiinga Borough ('oiincil.
Objection was made to high charges for lighting tho streets and it was decided to support tho Ono Troo llill Borough Council in favour of a deputation to the Auckland Electric-Power Board urging a reduction. Four tenders wore received for tho romoval of refuse to the destructor. The lowest tender, that of Mr. Ij. C. White, £8 7s (3d a weok, was accepted.
