PLAN FOR MEMORIAL
LATE SIR GEORGE FOWLDS PROPOSAL AT UNIVERSITY Details of a proposed design for a memorial to the late Sir George Fowlds were received by the Auckland University College Council at a meeting yesterday. Mr. R. A Lippincott suggested tliat the memorial take the form of a panel of smooth stone, with a bronze portrait of Sir George Fowlds in bas-relief, in the centre. Suitable lettering was provided for above nnd below the portrait. Mr. Lippincott suggested that the memorial be let in the wall panel nearest the inside doors of the vestibule, on the left-hand side. Ho- also suggested that the memorial tablet be 2oin. wide and 17in. high. Tho desirability of having a policy for placing memorials in the college was raised. It was said that unless some definite scheme was followed the college would have memorials in all sorts of places. It was decided to set up a sub-committee representing both the council and the professorial board to consider the design and the position in which the memorial could be placed.
