NATIONAL PARK
WAITAKERE PROPOSAL •CONTRIBUTION OF £IOOO An offer of £IOOO toward the cost of acquiring the Waitakere Ranges as a national park was received by the City Council last night from Mr. H. H. Hockley, acting on behalf of the trustees of the estate of the late Mr. Robert Cunningham Bruce, who, in his will, left the residue of his estate for the making of national parks and domains in New Zealand. In forwarding the offer, Mr. Hockley said he did not know if it was proposed to ask for contributions from the people individually for the purpose of establishing the park in celebration of the coronation of King Edward, but he felt stire there would be many who would like to have the satisfaction of contributing to so splendid a project. The trustees of the estate had that desire and he was authorised to offer £IOOO as a contribution toward the purchase of the area it was proposed to acquire. The only stipulation of the trustees was that the money should be used for this purpose and not for the formation of the proposed ridgeway drive. The Mayor, Mr. Ernest Davis, said ho was sure that this generous offer would be appreciated. The letter was referred to the Finance Committee.
