ELDERLY MAN DROWNED
FALL FROM CITY WHARF RESPIRATION EFFORTS FAIL Falling into the harbour from the Northern Wharf shortly after seven o'clock on Saturday evening, Mr. W. P. M. Todd, an elderly man, formerly of Thames, was drowned. The man was seen to fall by Mr. J. McDougall, a night-watchman employed by the Northern Steamship Company, who threw a lifebuoy in his direction. Some difficulty was experienced in getting the man out of tho water, but this was done with the assistance of some of the crew of the steamer Taniwha. moored at the wharf. Artificial respiration was attempted for nearly an hour by St. John Ambulance officers, and police attached to the Queen's Wharf station, but tho man could not be revived. An inquest will be opened this morning before Mr. \Y. It. McKean, S.M.
