The victory of Rhodes Scholar in the rich Helip.se Stakes, following so soon on his triumph over the Derby winner, Mahmoud, at Ascot, emphasises the illfortune of Lord As tor in not having had the Pharos colt available for the Derby. The winner's slake last year, when Windsor Lad won, was £7569. It is now likely that Rhodes Scholar will be made a firm favourite for the St. Leger, to be run in September. Horses who have gone from victory in the Hclipse Stakes to success in the St. Leger, or vice versa, arc Isinglass, Persimmon, living Fox, Diamond .Jubilee. Your Majesty, Bayardo, Swynford. Pharos, his sire, won the Royal Stakes and Champion Stakes, ar.d was second to Papyrus in the Derby.
