OPEN CHAMPIONSHIP WHITCOMBE WINS TITLE DUBLIN, July 17 The Irish open golf championship was won by It. A. Whitcombe, whose aggregate totalled 281. W. H. Davies, with 283, was runner-up. Whitcombe, who is 38 years old, has been prominent in championship golf since 1922, when lie won the West of England professional title. His more recent successes include the lloehampton and Penfold Fairhaven tournaments, which he won in 1934. He represented England against Scotland from 1933 to 1935 and against the United States in 1935 and holds the professional records for several courses in England. He has also the remarkable achievement to his credit of having holed in one on four different courses.
