SLAUGHTERING METHODS
Sir, —I have seen several slaughter houses in different' parts of New zip"! laud and had over three years' pithincj I experience, and I have yet to see ,the place where cattle can look on at the others being killed. Pithing, by ail experienced man, is, to my way of think" ing, the most humane way practicable in this country where slaughterhouses receive mostly wild run cattle. The humane killer may be all right in a country where the cattle are nearly all*! hand-fed in the winter, but I fail' to sec how it could be held to the head of a beast moving around in the killing pen. Perhaps some of the advocates of the humane killer will explain how it is to be done. Furthermore, 1 think they can safely leave things to the S.P.C.A. A.C.B. Sir, —I was very pleased to see that someone has had the decency to briug this subject into the limelight. It is to anv normal human being an unforgetable, sickening and heartrending sight to make a visit to the freezing works. It is often necessary for me to destroy animals, and in the past T have often killed for meat, but I like to kill only when the animal has been rendered unconscious. I am positive that if the meat-eating members of the community were to visit the works and see what takes place under the present system, there would lie a sudden increase in vegetarianism. C'OCKT.
