LUCKY ESCAPE
CAPSIZE OF MOTOR $ RESULT OF A COLLISION ACCIDENT AT OTAHUHU A fortunate escape from serious injury was experienced by the five occupants of a large saloon motor-car when it overturned after being involved in a collision with another car at Otahuhu shortly before four o'clock on Saturday afternoon. Two of the passengers, Alr. and Mrs. Richard Powell, of Mount Wellington, suffered slight injuries and, after being treated at the casualty ward of the Auckland Hospital, were ablo to go home. The car, driven by Mr. T. Pointon, of Mount Wellington, was proceeding southward on Atkinson Avenue, when the collision occurred. The other vehicle, also a saloon, was driven bv Mr. Percy Smith, of Owhango, and contained three passengers. It was proceeding along Princes Street toward the main highway. The cars met at the intersection.
After the impact Mr. Pointon's car overturned, spun round on its roof and landed on its wheels about 20 yards from the crossing and facing the direction in which it had been travelling. The body was badly dented. Mr. and Mrs. Powell were treated by Dr. E. R. Lange and Dr. 0. K. Rowley, of Otahuhu, before receiving further treatment at the hospital, where they were taken in a St. John ambulance. The occupants of the other car were not injured. Both vehicles had to be towed away by breakdown waggons.
