COMPLIMENT TO KING
FRENCH STRIKERS' ACTION RED FLAG HAULED DOWN (Received July 12, 6.35 p.m.) NICE, July 11 Not wishing to offend King Edward, the workers in the neighbourhood of Nice, who have been on strike for several weeks, hearing that Sir George Clerk, British Ambassador to France, was to arrive to complete the arrangements for the King's stay at the Chateau do l'Horizon, called in their pickets. Also they removed their placards and struck the red Hag which was flying opposite the chateau. At the invitation of the Canadian Government, King Edward on July 26, will unveil a memorial on Vimy Hidge to the Canadians who fell in the Great War. This announcement was made on May 27. It will be the first time a King of England has left his own countrv for several years.
