WORKERS' HIGHER WAGES RIMU FROM WEST COAST [BY TELEGRAPH —PRESS ASSOCIATION] GRBYMOUTH, Wednesday It was announced to-day by the sawmillers that, after negotiations with the Minister of Industries and Commerce, the Hon. D. G. Sullivan, it had been arranged that an increase of Is per 100 superficial feet net be added to the price of all rimu sold in New Zealand from the Westland and Buller districts, operating from July 7. The increase is the result of the reinstatement of the 1931 award and payment for statutory holidays. Another increase will be.involved when the 40-hour week becomes compulsory on September 1. Tho matter of an increase in the price of white pine for nse in New Zealand remains to be dealt with. Concerning rimu exported to Australia, forward contracts have been made which will not be completed before September 1. Increased prices have been fixed, but no benefit will bo derived before that date.
