PRICE SCHEDULES

TENDENCY IN INDUSTRY BETTER REGULATION GOVERNMENT BEING ADVISED Many employers state that, at the suggestion of the Government, they are advising the Department of Industries and Commerce when proposing to adjust prices or issue new schedules of rates. In doing so, they do not necessarily expect an investigation. Apparently where it sees no reason to tako action, the department is content to receive such notification. It is evident that there is now a trend among associations of employers to issue price schedules more with the idea, of preventing undercutting and reckless competition than anything else. \Y bile rises in labour costs are influencing this tendency, it is pointed out that the basic principle conforms with the declared policy of the Government to protect industry from unfair competition and reckless trading. Indeed, the Government has promised legislation to permit of a definite regulation of industry. Employers state that in quite a number of instances tariff schedules have been prepared or are in course of consideration. There is 110 intention in such instances to exploit the public; in fact, the schedules are being submitted in each case to the Department of Industries and Commerce for its information.
